Enfant Précoce

A lover of beautiful things such as fine materials, fashion, and vibrant colors, the artist Francis Essoua Kalu, alias Enfant Précoce, is the one with whom we wished to collaborate for an imaginary journey to a land
of wonders.

On the occasion of the release of the pieces developed alongside him, we took a few moments to chat with him. You will understand that this former dancer turned painter is one of the most inspired people you will
have the chance to meet.

How do you like to introduce yourself?

I like to first introduce myself as Francis, without talking about what I do. I think as a person, you don’t necessarily need to identify with your profession. But if I had to talk about my job, my way of painting, I would say that I am an artist who fits into a figurative style that is unique to me. I have a particular way of representing the world, everything is done through my eyes, and I would have difficulty identifying with a particular style.

Can you tell us more about your art and its particularities?

I think its authenticity lies in a play of contrasting colors, with black lines that surround what I shape. I also have a certain freedom in the way I form my characters, my objects, my shapes, my perspectives. I think this is what defines my uniqueness. Otherwise, I always work with acrylic paint and sometimes with oil paint.

What inspires you?

The world we live in is full of colors. The sky has magnificent colors at sunrise, sunset, the clouds, the aerial movements are incredible. Nature itself is beautiful and humans have always captured this beauty through colorful objects. These are what strike me, inspire me, and are projected into my work.

What links do you see with leather goods?

I really like this material, leather, but also fashion in general. It’s an organic material that travels through time and has always fascinated me. I have often dreamed of using my art to connect with fashion. Here, we’re talking about a bag, a key accessory that cannot be overlooked in fashion, and I find that beautiful.

What did you particularly like about this collaboration?

I really liked the approach, which included a visit to the premises where I could choose the bag model. I was given a lot of freedom. I had long imagined my works on this type of material, it was a first, and it is really touching to have been able to achieve that.

What are you preparing for the future?

I am preparing an exhibition in Paris called "The Road to Paradise," which I have been working on for two years, but I am thinking of giving it another
name because the project has grown a lot since then. It is much more magical and always with more colors. Soon you will be able to discover it!
