2 - Le Tanneur: A French Leather Goods House

Le Tanneur was born in eastern France from the meeting of a tanner from Lyon and a leather craftsman from Ain. It took its first steps in 1898, a year marked by the optimism and carefree spirit of the Belle Époque that radiated throughout the country. The French art of living became its primary source of inspiration, an ideal concept for our workshops at the time. They crafted their first leather pieces and quickly expanded. Soon, the guiding principle of the Maison emerged—the same one that has driven us from the beginning: to embody French elegance and share a passion for beautiful materials and finely crafted leather goods. Le Tanneur quickly established itself as one of the country’s leading leather masters. It is a legacy we are especially proud of today and one we are determined to preserve as we shape the future of leather craftsmanship.

This emblematic piece of the Maison perfectly illustrates the notions of heritage and future, having won a silver medal at the 1900 Paris Exposition Universelle. We still manufacture it today, and it has even become our symbol. Over time, we have adapted this coin purse into different formats: handbags, clutches, satchels, and even cardholders.
